Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension, similar to acupressure points, except that they occur in the belly of the muscle or near tendon attachments, rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life, and are due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stresses.
During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release the trigger points. This techinque must not be too painful, but must work within the comfort zone of the client, to allow for a lasting relief from myofascial pain and dysfunction.
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people engaged in a variety of sports, which tends to be harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. This style of therapy enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pain and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates.
While utilizing proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), sport-specific stretching, and neuromuscular soft tissue techniques, this treatment is highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and, in turn, promoting the body's natural muscular function.
Neuromuscular Re-education focuses on the cause-and-effect of muscular pain and dysfunction. While working on the muscles to relief spasm and tension, the nervous system is "re-set" to address the pain-spasm-pain cycle.
The client will not only learn to understand the mechanism of their injury/pain, but they will also be shown how to facilitate better body mechanics and appropriate at-home stretching routines, to continue the healing and recover process outside of the massage session.
